Baidu’s data retention policy requires transferring tape data every 3 to 6 years. The tape library has a total capacity of 16PB, and its cache drive must support at least 48PBW of write volume across three tape generations. Traditional mechanical hard disks, with a read speed of 200 MB/s, fall short of the tape library’s efficiency requirements, which demand a 600 MB/s write speed. While enterprise SSDs meet performance needs, their lack of durability can drive up operational and maintenance costs.
Cost-effective cache disk solutions that lower the total cost of ownership (TCO).
Enhanced data management capabilities for Baidu.
Triple backup volume within the same timeframe compared to the previous system.
The DapuStor PCIe Gen4 SLC SSD X2900 1.6 TB serves as the cache disk in Baidu's tape library data nodes. Data is cached and serialized before being stored in the IBM TS4500 tape library.
Using X2900 U.2 1.6 TB SSDs in RAID1 configuration, with a full disk write endurance of 60 DWPD and durability of up to 175 PBW, significantly enhances performance and exceeds the customer requirement of 48PBW by over three times. This solution enables backing up three times more data in the same timeframe.
